Introduction

Medical Thermal Imaging (MTI) is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that allows the examiner to visualize and quantify changes in skin surface temperature. Meditherm’s scanning technology converts infrared radiation emitted from the surface of the skin into electrical impulses that are visualized in colour on a monitor. This visual image graphically maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of colours indicates an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface. Since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature asymmetries can be easily identified.

Meditherm Scans can be taken of the whole body or just areas being investigated. The digital images sent electronically to our panel of Thermologists (certified MD and thermal imaging specialists) for interpretation and reporting. If you have a question about a patient’s thermogram, you can contact the thermographer or interpretation service for direct contact with the doctor who interpreted the scan.

Filling the Gap in Clinical Diagnosis

Medical Thermal Imaging is unique in its ability to show physiological change and metabolic processes. For this reason, MTI fills the gap between tests of anatomy such as X-ray, CT Ultrasound and M.R.I., and tests of motor physiology such as E.M.G., as a complementary procedure.

Unlike most diagnostic modalities, Medical Thermal Imaging is non-invasive. It is a very sensitive and reliable means of graphically mapping and displaying skin surface temperature. With MTI you can diagnosis, evaluate, monitor and document a large number of injuries and conditions, including soft tissue injuries and sensory/autonomic nerve fiber dysfunction.
